First Timers Scoop The Pool At 2014 Racv Victorian Tourism Awards

Jetty Road Retreat, fresh from recent success as double category Finalists & Winners of the 2014 East Gippsland Business Awards, has scooped the pool at the 2014 Victorian Tourism Awards, winning the Standard Accommodation category as first time applicants. CEO of Destination Gippsland, Terry Robinson, described it as an outstanding result for a first time entrant to win outright.

In only their second year of operation, owners, Kim and Stephen Kleinitz attribute their win to their secluded lakeside position and simple, affordable accommodation, which offers visitors the chance to completely relax, unwind and enjoy the beauty of their surroundings.

"It's an absolute hidden gem, and Steve and I have enjoyed upgrading the units for increased guest comfort whilst being careful to maintain their relaxed, retro charm" Kim says. "Located in the peaceful hamlet of Nungurner, it's an ideal base for people to enjoy the best of what our region has to offer, or just linger in this beautiful secluded sanctuary and completely disconnect from the digital world".

The four self-contained units at Jetty Road Retreat were built by Stephen's father, Ray, 40 years ago, using timber from the family's farm. "Ray and Maureen showed great foresight in creating this family tourism business, and seeing its potential to offer an amazing experience for visitors, whilst supplementing their income as a family with seven children", Kim says.

Jetty Road Retreat were in exalted company at Monday night's gala ceremony, with a number of East Gippsland tourism businesses also winning awards, or making it into the Hall of Fame.

"It's such a privilege to receive this award, and be judged by leaders in the tourism industry" Kim stated. "The application process was very demanding but has proven to be a very effective tool in clarifying our objectives for further business development. I'd recommend other tourism businesses consider entering in the future".

Jetty Road Retreat will now proceed as a contender for the Australian Tourism Awards, which will be held in Adelaide in April 2015.
