Summer is in full swing and both Lakes Entrance and Metung are bustling with holiday makers enjoying the cafes and shops whilst the lakes are filled with boats, yachts and kayaks. Yesterday afternoon the Nungurner Jetty was the place to be for a late afternoon dip on what was a surprisingly balmy day. Another great place to head on hot summer days is the water park in Metung just across from the general store. It's the perfect place for adults to relax with a a latte under shady trees while the kids run under the spurting water fountains to cool off.

New Years Eve is fast approaching and if you'd like to watch the New Years Eve fireworks but avoid the crowds and traffic of Lakes Entrance, the Nungurner Jetty is a great place to head. The earlier fireworks are on at 9:30pm for the kiddies before the grand finale at midnight to see in 2017.

A great way spend New Years Day in East Gippsland is to jump aboard a boat and attend the Sail Past in Metung. This fun annual event attracts vessels (and crews!) of all shapes and sizes, many decked out in fancy dress and armed with water pistols (pictured), as they make their way past the Commodore of the Metung Yacht Club to receive their salute. If you can't find a boat to scamble onto then the Metung Yacht Club or the lawn in front of the Metung Pub are both great places to watch all the action (and stay dry!).

Also coming up in Metung over summer is the pop up open air cinema on the Village Green. Pack a picnic and blanket to enjoy a dinner and movie out under the stars by the lake. For more information and movie times check out the Metung Community Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/metung.vic/

We hope your New Year celebrations are lots of fun and hope to see you at Jetty Road Retreat or Country House Retreat in 2017 - Happy New Year!
